Sweden, 1975. Assaulted by her drunken husband, Elizabeth packs her bags, picks up her two children (13 and 6), and joins her brother Goran in a suburban Stockholm commune built on the principles of free love, work rotas, wine, pot, and no TV. It’s a culture shock for all of them. Communism is not a life style for the faint of heart. And sharing a home with half a dozen couples brings many challenges, no matter how well intentioned everyone may be. An ex-Communard himself, writer-director Lukas Moodysson (Show Me Love; We Are the Best) gives us the kids’ perspective, in this sharp, funny, emotionally piercing movie, a film about love and loneliness, family and neglect which gives everyone their due, and somehow sends us out on a high. Talking Pictures is a monthly matinee series catering to the 55+ community. Patrons are encouraged to stay and chat about the movie and enjoy coffee and cookies on the house. Tickets are only $12, or two for $20. Love in Together is raw and rusty, at times unreciprocated, often inconvenient. But it is the engine of the film, endlessly sought and easily given, driving the actions of each of the characters. And it’s the abundance of love – sexual, parental, filial, familial – that makes this a heartening film, that fills it with awkward, hopeful beauty. Sarah Crown, The Guardian A wonderful, heartening film. Time Out A funny, graceful and immensely good-natured work. Dave Kehr, New York Times
