Sillage is a cinema discovery and screening-planning service based in British Columbia, Canada. In this policy, “we,” “us,” and “our” refer to Sillage. This policy explains what information we collect, how it is used, and the choices available to you.
The information we collect depends on how you use the service.
Information you provide: This includes information you provide when creating or updating your account, such as your username, email address, selected city, and preferences. It also includes films you save or mark as seen, screening plans you save, and messages you send to support.
Information from Letterboxd: Connecting Letterboxd is optional. If you provide a public Letterboxd username, we may retrieve information available on that public profile, including films in your watchlist, recent viewing activity, ratings, and liked status. We do not receive your Letterboxd password, use Letterboxd to authenticate your account, access private Letterboxd information, or write changes back to Letterboxd.
Information about how you use the service: We receive information about the features you use, pages you visit, ticket links you open, and notifications you interact with. This helps us provide features, understand how the service is used, and diagnose problems.
App, browser, and device information: We receive limited technical information, such as your IP address, browser or device type, session information, and information needed to deliver notifications. We use this information to operate, secure, and troubleshoot the service.
Location information: We use your selected city to show relevant cinemas and screenings. If you allow location access in the iOS app, your location may be used on your device to calculate distances to cinemas. Precise coordinates used for that calculation are not sent to us.
We use information to provide and protect your account, maintain your watchlist and seen history, match films with screenings, save your plans, synchronize requested Letterboxd information, deliver notifications you enable, improve the service, respond to support requests, prevent misuse, and comply with legal requirements.
We do not sell your personal information or use it for targeted advertising.
We use essential cookies and local storage to keep you signed in, remember your selected city and preferences, and protect your account.
We use limited analytics to understand how the service performs and which features are used. We do not use advertising cookies or track your activity across unrelated services for advertising.
We keep your account information while your account remains open. Notifications, analytics, security records, and other operational information are retained only as long as reasonably necessary to provide, secure, and maintain the service.
When you confirm account deletion, your account is permanently removed and cannot be recovered. You are signed out on every device, and your account details, preferences, Letterboxd information, watchlist data, saved plans, notification history, and associated device information are removed from active systems.
Administrative audit records directly linked to your account are also removed. Where necessary, deletion requests are sent to service providers.
Residual copies may remain in isolated, encrypted backups for no more than seven days. These copies are not available through the service, are used only for disaster recovery, and cannot be used to recover an individual account.
Limited information may be retained when required by law or reasonably necessary to investigate fraud or security incidents, resolve disputes, or establish legal claims. Where possible, that information will be separated from the deleted account and anonymized.
You can update your account details, change notification preferences, change your selected city, disconnect Letterboxd, and permanently delete your account through account settings.
You may contact [email protected] to request access to or correction of your information, withdraw consent where applicable, ask how your information has been handled, or make a privacy complaint. We may need to verify your identity before completing a request.
You may also contact the privacy regulator responsible for your location.
We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards to protect personal information. No online service can guarantee complete security.
Accounts are not intended for anyone who has not reached the age required to create one under the laws where they live. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children who cannot legally provide it.
We may update this policy as the service changes. We will provide notice of material changes through the service or by email where appropriate. The effective date above identifies the current version.
